What is a Dental Implant?  It is a small titanium cylinder which is surgically placed in the bone to serve as a replacement  for a root or roots of one or several teeth or as an anchor for a removable prosthesis.
What are the advantages of implants? Implants are independent of other teeth. Therefore, adjacent teeth do not have to be harmed or altered.

How long does it take and how many steps?  Once the implant is placed, approximately 6 months are given to allow for healing and integration of the bone and implant.  During this period a temporary prosthesis is generally placed. The implant is then uncovered, a temporary crown is placed and the tissue is allowed to heal.  In the final step a definitive restoration is placed.

What are the alternatives to implants?
Bridge:  It replaces a missing tooth or teeth by using the tooth on both sides of the space for  support.  The supporting teeth are prepared for crowns which are connected to the tooth or teeth  being replaced.
Removable Partial Denture:
Repaces the missing tooth or teeth in an arch with a single removable device.  There are several alternatives in desing and construction to accomodate the patinet's functional, esthetic, and financial needs.
